It’s no new news that you don’t actually need a gym membership to get fit any more. In fact, you can do it from the comfort of your home with your Mobile as your personal trainer. Although your Iphone may not be the eye-candy you had hoped for, it’s a darn lot cheaper (free in most cases) and saves a hefty gym membership *more money for shoes – YAY!*.
Although i do a lot of gym workouts, and gym classes, i love the freedom of being able to do a workout wherever and whenever i like. Until recently i was working away from home, so my Iphone literally became my gym, as well as my nutritionist, and it did a pretty great job. I use a few free fitness apps, and below are my faves!
INTERVAL TIMER – I incorporate a lot of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) into my workout routine. It’s a great way to burn fat, build your fitness and keep workout time well within 30 minutes. Problem is, without a clock/timer it’s hard to keep on track and stay motivated. Thats’ where the ‘Interval Timer’ app comes in (its literally called that). You can create your workout length, high interval (where you perform the exercise) and low interval (where you rest inbetween) time. Use with your heaphones in or out, and there is a buzzer for each time you need to change exercise or rest. It’s completely free, and you can create as many workouts as you like. BODYSPACE – This is a great app designed by Bodybuilding.com. It’s completely free and has workout programmes from professionals. You can choose your specifics, i.e ‘woman, weight loss, 6 weeks, average 4 workouts a week’, so that the workouts cater to your needs. Not only can you use workouts from the pro’s, but you can create your own programmes on your profile. Granted, most of the workouts require equipment, but there are also body weight workouts on their too if you don’t have equipment, or a gym membership. Highly recommend!
MY FITNESS PAL – Yessss, i know. You’ve all heard of it. But seriously, if you haven’t downloaded it yet, do it! I input everything i eat and the calories i burn on workouts, and it also shows your macros, or suggests the macros you should be consuming (fats, proteins and carbs). When i first started using this app over a year ago i was shocked at how much sugar and fat i was eating! Whether you want to lose weight, improve your health or just realise what you’re fuelling your body with it’s the app for you!
7 MINUTE WORKOUT – Yep, there’s such a thing. For those days where you have absolutely no motivation, do this! It’s 7 minutes long, the exercises are for anyone of any level, require no equipment, it’s free and it gets your heart rate up! If you’re feeling on form, complete 3-4 times for an intense workout! INSTANT ABS TRAINER – With over 100 free ab exercises, you will never have an excuse not to do your ab workout ever again! The app does the workout with you, so you know when to change exercises! It’s the closest you’ll get to a personal trainer on your phone! The ab workouts are free, and you can purchase other workouts on the app for a teeny tiny price.
